Chicago Booth to host conference to help women network, build skills

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business will host the Booth Women Connect Conference ( Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22 for women in the business community who are interested in expanding their professional network, building their business skills and learning more about the admissions process at Chicago Booth.

The conference, at Booth’s Gleacher Center, 450 N. Cityfront Plaza Drive, Chicago, will include sessions to help women manage their careers more effectively, maintain balance and identify their next career move.

Debra Fine, author of The Fine Art of Building Your Network, will provide practical tips on efficient networking and Gail Evans, author of She Wins, You Win: Strategies for Making Women More Powerful, will share with women how to create their own rules while being successful in the marketplace.

Ayelet Fishbach, a professor of behavioral science and marketing at Chicago Booth, will discuss her research on removing barriers to creative thinking and how to develop creative solutions to problems.

Diane Swonk, senior managing director and chief economist at Mesirow Financial, will talk about how her Chicago Booth M.B.A. degree has helped her career.

Susan Wagner, vice chairman of BlackRock Financial Management, will speak at the conference dinner October 21. She was recently named one of Fortune magazine’s “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” for 2011.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to meet members of Booth’s admissions staff, as well as Booth alumni and current students. Prospective students at the conference will also attend a mock M.B.A. class in competitive strategy taught by Ram Shivakumar, a clinical associate professor of economics and strategy.
